that was the missing link!
For the hull I used a Gordon Surface, for the deck I had to use sweep2rails. Gordon did not work.
The example is a coarse model of the former Volvo Ocean Racer Illbruck, winner 2002.

I just run into the same trouble with sweep2rails and realized that there is no documentation on this function. You mentioned some posts earlier that sweep2rails is fully outdated and has to be rewritten. Will this happen soon? If not, I have to find a workaround.

a major release once a year or so is fully sufficient, for the minor updates in between the weekly builds are a good solution.
