Re: Bike frame FEM trouble

One more thing to go: how to do setup for disc brake? Should I just apply linear force or is there way to add torque?

Re: Bike frame FEM trouble

Almost finished. 20000N will be enough to brake all bones ;)

Re: Bike frame FEM trouble

There's performance problem when applying thicknesses. Remeshing of model takes here about 8secs, calculation is also insanely fast, but applying thicknesses takes about 10 minutes(!). As usual file is attached and screen from newest version with many cleanups and bent chainstays. I've also noticed ...

Re: Bike frame FEM trouble

Works! I've made cross shaped shell inside axels and assigned constraint to edge. I've tried this before but it works with shell only. Thank you! I will post some nice results when I optimize rear triangle. One thing I can't figure out: how to prevent face name change inside union, so I can safely a...

Re: Bike frame FEM trouble

https://filebin.net/ Shell is faster and meshes better, but still I can't get rotation on axels... Only clue I've found till now is this: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=23778 But I completely don't know how to make constraint (not force) that rotates... @bernd, is this possible? Rear a...

Re: Bike frame FEM trouble

Ah I see.
For now I'll rebuild main triangle using extrusions and create secondary model without wall thickness, but with proper booleans.

Re: Bike frame FEM trouble

Thx! No, this is my first try, but I'm pretty precise doing my archviz work, maybe that's why ;) Thank you for link, I'm thinking about shell, but I will probably need some solid elements/revolves for headset. Have to think about this. General question: do I need at last one fixed constraint? I've j...

Re: Bike frame FEM trouble

I mean as I need constraint I'm not sure how to put it. Most logical would be applying two forces (same amount), one on bottom bracket, one on fork+rear dropouts, and one constraint to X+Z on top of seat tube. But then I still need rotation of this constraint... EDIT: Now I get what have you meant b...

Re: Bike frame FEM trouble

Here you go: https://filebin.net/89z646jqxqz6a56v Windows, Freecad 0.18 dev, from yesterday. In the meantime I think I've found cause: existing result meshes, after cleanup it works... for now. Also FreeCAD creates two results meshes when Netgen mesher is used. It's almost complete shell model, not ...
