Re: Trying to cut multiple helical sweeps without success
No need for a computer then, just do it manually. Seriously, the problem with your file was that the sweeps were not in the body, mixing part and part design is OK but it must be done correctly. LOL! I am a living example of "technical debt". :) Thanks for the reply, though. I'm sti...

Re: Trying to cut multiple helical sweeps without success
Forget I asked. Thought about this a bit and while there may be a better way to do it, I just did 16 copy-pastes of the cutting cube and did a boolean cut on each helical sweep. Ended up with what I needed for export.

Trying to cut multiple helical sweeps without success
I’m driving myself crazy trying to so something I THINK should be pretty simple so instead of continuing to ram my head against the wall (because I'm probably making a bone-headed mistake), I thought I’d appeal to you good folks for advice. First, here’s my environment: OS: Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS Word s...

Re: File save issues on Synology NAS
So, it turns out the GVFS and SMB Client that the Ubuntu file manager uses is known to be buggy. I switched to a regular kernel mount and everything behaves properly in either dialect of SMB. I'll log a bug with the Ubuntu team as I found a simple way to replicate it with as single echo command rath...

Re: File save issues on Synology NAS
For anyone following along, my earlier statement about this working fine under Ubuntu 16 and not under Ubuntu 18 turned out to be only because Ubuntu 16.04 only speaks SMB1 out of the box and my share was set to allow SMB1 connections if SMB2 didn't work out. So the issue is really SMB1 vs SMB2 and ...

Re: File extension when saving freecad project v0.17
Or, if you don't want to move off v.17 yet, the 17 AppImage doens't have the extension problem, either.

Re: File save issues on Synology NAS
No fix found yet, but I did determine it happens on other SMB shares. Looking to further isolate, I tried both SMB1 and SMB2 on my NAS and my Windows machine and in both cases, saves to SMB1 work fine, but saves to SMB2 fail in the 0 byte file manner described.

Re: File save issues on Synology NAS
I enabled logging earlier in this process, but it didn't tell me anything was wrong, just what was happening. In a save from LibreOffice, the file is created under a temp name, the data is written, and then the temp file is renamed to it's real name (with a delete of the previous file if it's a save...

Re: Freecad 0.17 (Ubuntu 18.04) stopped using the .fcstd extension when saving files
FWIW, I tried the v17 AppImage and the file extension problem didn't happen there. It also uses a different version of Qt than what's in the PPA version, which may be why it's not a problem in that version. I'm not going to use it long-term because the issue doesn't bother me that much and I don't w...
