Re: App::Link: the big merge

oh man, I did not compile freecad for so long that I'm not able to do it anymore  it will take some time till I can poke around with it, but I will definitely have a look!

it is a impressive amount of work and documentation, looking forward to see how it works!

Re: postprocessing

Für FEM postprocessing ist paraview mit abstand das beste frei verfügbare program:
https://www.paraview.org/

Ansonsten: FreeCAD includiert die volle toolchain, also Modellierung, FEM Preprocessing, Berechnung und Postprocessing ;)

Re: Collision detection for groups

A App::Part is used to represent a local coordiante system, hence it's group property holds everything that belongs in this CS. A normal group is just a visual aid for the tree view, but does not have a own CS. Hence the behaviour, which is IMHO the logical one ;)

Re: Assembly3 preview

but ickby won't consider it Yeah, that was a quite involved discussion back than... but once the assembly3 links and basic assembly methodologies get merged it of course does not make sense to have duplicated functionalities. The basic "assembly" idea I started with was just largely different, henc...

Re: Closing shell of a Gyroid STL import

Annother idea, completely untested: Find all edges that are shared only by 1 face (not so easy as freecad allowes only face->edge, not the other way around. maybe brute force?) find the connected edges so you get all edges that form a wire sort those edges (there is a part workbench function for tha...

Re: FreeCAD and multicores - multithreads

It seems that the call of the mesher uses true for parallel meshing independent of operating system (no if else guards): https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/blob/bdbea25d0d7e00cad5d71184a63e9c9e270df2aa/src/Mod/Part/Gui/ViewProviderExt.cpp#L928 Last parameter is the parallel switch: https://www.openc...

Re: FreeCAD and multicores - multithreads

can you give some infos about the used OCC versions and whic linux system you use? Also if conda build or ppa or self build... IMHO the difference could be if OCC is build with multithread support or not, so less a platform topic and more a build settings topic.

Re: SelObserver, accessing body name

Objects have methods to get the group they are in. Right know I cannot look up the exact names, but they are something like

Code: Select all

GetParentGroup //all possible groups
GetParentGeoFeatureGroups // only geofeature groups, e.g. part or body

Re: [for information] Overlaying icons

Good work! It is alwas nice to see the extension system used! I like that you made the attachment icons as one. If this does what I think it does I'm getting quite excited about it - although I wish it was implemented in the base ViewProvider so we would get it for free in Path It seems it is, you d...
