Re: Philosophical thoughts (?) About FreeCAD.

But let's take an example: a woodcarver uses a wood chisel. This is an interesting analogy. There's other was to think about it: Does the woodcarver need to understand the relationship between the angles of the cutting edge? Yes! especially if he intends to sharpen to tool or adapt it for a special...

Re: Any plans for Laser/Plasma toolpaths?

I may look at how difficult adding all of this would be. I can code python and other languages, but I know nothing about creating tool paths. Any advice is welcomed. Cheers. Great! I can help bootstrap. Most of the Path devs also hang out on the gitter channel for live chat. https://gitter.im/FreeC...

Re: Any plans for Laser/Plasma toolpaths?

kerf width This is just a matter of configuring a tool. I have a laser cutter and routinely use Path for creating jobs. I have a tool library with a single tool in it to configure the beam kerf. Then I create job templates for the different materials I cut so the tool controllers are pre-configured...

Can you give details about why existing operations are insufficient for plasma work?

Re: is there 5 axis

Control is definitely getting affordable.
But does anyone have a low cost 5 axis kit for hardware?
The 5Axismaker is interesting but it's still at least $6k.

Re: Relative Paths for Toolbits

Would it help to use App.ActiveDocument.FileName and split the Path from it to get the path from the current document? Not really. The toolbit and shape locations aren't relative to the document location. The toolbit location is relative to the toolbit library. The tool shape location is relative t...

Re: Tool number auto increment

in my mind this scenario is not common in practice, at least not at machines with automatic tool changer... I know different setups - which shows that they at least exist: They have similar machines with the same clamping system and the tools are indeed exchanged between the machines. The tools are...

Re: Relative Paths for Toolbits

Well....crap. You're right.

The resolution of a relative path is done here. It doesn't work.

This is going to require some work. Please open a ticket for this.

Re: Relative Paths for Toolbits

ideally, start with relative paths and stay with relative paths. If you already have absolute paths, it's easy to fix in the library: 1) change the preference to relative and restart FreeCAD. 2) open the dock. 3) change something. Add a tool, change a tool number, etc 4) close the dock. The library ...
