Re: A couple of newbie questions about tool cutting patterns

Frank, 1. That would be really difficult, since the optimum depends on many things that only you control. Material, machine, cutters, desired finish, etc. 2. Many Path operations have a "keep cutter down" option in Property section of the Combo Panel. It does not always prevent unneeded raises, but ...

Re: Path workbench crashes [solved]

In the case of Report View the Windows standard shortcut CTRL-C is not implemented. However, a right click brings up a context menu with appropriate functions.

This has been the standard practice in FreeCAD for many years.

Re: Edit Job: tool modifications not sticking.

I also do not see why 0. "does not parse", it is a valid representation of zero. There are many such inconsistencies throughout FreeCAD for lots of historical reasons. Sometimes a zero is required before a decimal, and sometimes not. Plain old zeros work sometimes and sometimes they don't. FreeCAD ...

Re: Edit Job: tool modifications not sticking.

I am path tool to create a job , using Edit Job , I use Tools tab to edit the default tool. The dialogue tells me that changes will only affect this tool controller. Fine. I edit the tool diam. for 5 to 6mm , length from 15 to 30 mm and quit out with "OK". If I got straight back in to edit tool the...

Re: Standardized test shapes

here is first attempt at diamond-circle-square type test piece. It appears you are using the Part workbench operations with a Part Design mentality. Moving fully to Part Design, as Sliptonic did, will help preserve sanity. Also, the various references you gave appear to be directed at checking prec...

Re: Path deviation between Profile and Path from shape

This problem has been around in one form or another for quite a while. It is not really a bug, but rather an often ignored preference setting. The path curve generation uses precision and tolerance values to determine how closely to follow the original model. Too tight and the gcode file gets large;...

Re: Cutting time calculation in Path Workbench

I use the Camotics simulator https://camotics.org/ to get an idea of the run time. The simulator adds up all the moves, but it does not know anything about the actual machine acceleration and deceleration. Therefore the total time is a bit optimistic. Still useful, however, to get a general idea. Gene

Re: 3D Surface: 4th-axis Integration and more...

So my non coding, low poly brain can understand, here a few statements: 1. we all at some point over the last years and last few posts identified that surface machining needed a better mesh to work from than the original underlying mesh coming out of a designed part. True? Actually this is not true...

Re: Traction engine

Such simple? Julius de Waal (not Julian) is a very prolific designer who has created hundreds of Solidworks models of varying complexity. This model, the Julian Traction Engine, is intentionally designed to be quite simple. Some others, such as his Allchin design, are full featured and quite comple...

Re: Freecad do not work on new computer

This sounds like an extremely common operation which usually works flawlessly. From your description it is not possible to understand what might be wrong.

Can you explain in more detail the exact steps you took? A screenshot of the resulting pad would be useful.
