Re: Realthunder Link implementation: Architecture discussion

But will not the API at the very least have consequences for the function(s) we users experience and workflow and what's possible and what is not possible, in the different scenarios? Agreed. The workflow is only meaningful under some concrete context. And in this case, obviously, the (future) asse...

Re: Realthunder Link implementation: Architecture discussion

Hi guys, us mere mortals are totally lost in these discussions, would it be too bold to ask you to make a picture each, explaining your standpoints? Anything picture-like on the back of an envelope, take a photo of it and add it here, please? Hmm...that's going to be difficult, because the discussi...

Re: Realthunder Link implementation: Architecture discussion

Unless i am missing something in your current proposal link and linked geometry (topology vise) should work and behave in the same way. Take assembly2 for an example, its constraint uses PropertyLinkSub to point to the base geometry, an edge or face. The constaint is defined in the assembly file. I...

Re: Path.Area: Welcome, to the new era!

A more accurate representation of the sim would include all the sections like below. Collision detection is one advantage, but the real reason for calculating objects like this is to find areas NOT removed by the operation so they can be refined with another operation/tool. Yeah, I that's my guess,...

Re: Path.Area: Welcome, to the new era!

I've got sectioncount=-1 and Stepdown=1 but when I do simobj = pocket.getShape(), I only get back the bottom section, not the others as shown in your image. This is probably because you've set the bottom face as work plane, and use the default SectionMode, which means relative to work plane. A posi...

Re: Realthunder Link implementation: Architecture discussion

Yes, it is a bit off topic to this thread. I am not proposing to solve topological naming problem per se, but a way to reduce its negative impact due to its volatile natural, not by adding some extra feature, but by how link can be used. That GSoc project is trying to attack the problem directly and...

Re: Realthunder Link implementation: Architecture discussion

Link has topology (vertex, edge, face) and topology of a link can change? If that is true i wouldn't mix topology discussion in Link discussion all that much for now. As Link doesn't solve it therefore that is a separate and unrelated effort in the end. Well, you have to realize that there is no wa...

Damn, you're fast!

I didn't have time to reply to Bill and you got the reply AND the fix!
Well, it's a small fix after all. So, are you testing fine? If so, I'll submit the PR.

Re: Realthunder Link implementation: Architecture discussion

Hmm, now I can see clearer the difference in our view point, too. I think assembly is meant to capture the placement relationship among various objects. The actual instance (or type) of object is not all that important. And Link is here to act as an abstract placeholder in the container, which is wh...

Re: Path.Area: Welcome, to the new era!

Does the 'thicken' property work with pocket mode? I'm playing more with collision detection and can't seem to get it to work Fixed in my branch. Please test. I dont know what you are trying to do; pocket that hex rim with zigzag? He is trying to thicken the pocketing path to see if the tool bumps ...
