Re: Materials dialogue problem

The bug is in 'src/Base/UnitsSchemaInternal.cpp': 5cb8873794 (wmayer 2016-08-05 10:00:12 +0200 116) else if (unit == Unit::ThermalConductivity) { 5cb8873794 (wmayer 2016-08-05 10:00:12 +0200 117) if (UnitValue < 1000) { 1c89c566c9 (wmayer 2016-08-04 17:26:12 +0200 118) unitString = QString::fromLati...

Re: Materials dialogue problem

One step further. Looks like this is a general problem of the units system: >>> from Units import Unit,Quantity >>> Quantity('0.9 W/m/K').UserString u'0.00 W/mm/K' >>> Quantity('0.9 W/m/K').getUserPreferred() (u'0.00 W/mm/K', 1000000.0, u'W/mm/K') >>> Quantity('1.1 W/m/K').UserString u'1.10 W/m/K' >...

Re: Materials dialogue problem

I think there is at least a third problem involving units. The following is with the "C" locale, so locales shouldn't be an issue. If I set the thermal conductivity to a value >= 1.00 W/m/K everything works fine. If I set the thermal conducitvity to eg 0.9 W/m/K, the correct value is shown in the py...

Re: FEM: How to create model with multiple materials

Finally got around to updating the wiki, maybe you want to review or improve: https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/FEM_MeshGmshFromShape

Re: FEM: How to create model with multiple materials

Hi bernd, thanks for your explanation - this make sense. I guess there is little chance I could have figured this out from the error message. Maybe describing things in the Wiki would also help. How about the following text for FEM_MeshGmshFromShape ? Description For a finite elements analysis the g...

Re: FEM: How to create model with multiple materials

Yes, I'm using recent version from git (0.17R12091). It seems I'm unlucky with BooleanFragments - it says my occ version is too old (from debian stable). Attached you find a minimal example of the fused parts causing an error when writing the .inp file, that I mentioned in my initial post. I have in...

Re: FEM: How to create model with multiple materials

Hi, thanks for all the answers. I never came across compsolids in FreeCAD, but I guess I will find what I need to know by searching for that term. The computer I use FreeCAD on is not connected to the internet, but I will copy over the model giving the error. The models are really simple (or should ...

FEM: How to create model with multiple materials

Hi, I have been trying to simulate thermal insulation leakage using the FEM module. The module probably wasn't written with that application in mind, but results are quite encouraging anyway: I can create simple models like a cube and apply different constraints to different faces and get a nice tem...

Re: first attempt to write FreeCAD code (for Arch module)

Sorry, if my posting came across as harsh. I didn't want to put FreeCAD down, just point out that my python guru wasn't helpful at all... and by "trivial" even he meant "fixing broken objects" not "writing a 3D cad system". ;) Obviously I don't agree, otherwise I wouldn't try to contribute. Alas I'm...

Re: first attempt to write FreeCAD code (for Arch module)

I will ask my local python guru, how the problem might be solved in a general way. @lambda any progress? Not really. My python guru pointed out that freecad is a horrible piece of code, not following proper object oriented semantics - or rather inventing its own rather then using what python provid...
