Is 0.19 on FreeCAD Daily? My system seems to not update since 0.18.
Thx.

Re: Release of 0.18

Regarding py2 / py3 and which should be the default, my rather conservative view would be that where py2 is still the default on a distro, we should use the same for 0.18, as its objective is to be stable, not have people find and report problems. But we should switch in 0.19. But it's not a strong...

Re: name FreeCAD 0.91 instead of 0.20, means version after 0.19 could be 0.91

Also, there are actually several issues being discussed here: 1. should we drop the leading 0 in the version to communicate FreeCAD's maturity (and stop communicating its immaturity) 2. should we have a 1.0 release to communicate FreeCAD's readiness for wide usage 3. should we use a major.minor.pat...

I do not understand how 1.0 or 2.0 tells me whether i am using a current version not??
Strictly speaking a year.month version doesn't tell you if it's current or not, either, just if it's recent.
Yes that is what i said. Which means it is more information than version numbers like 1.0, etc.

Re: name FreeCAD 0.91 instead of 0.20, means version after 0.19 could be 0.91

How often does one really need to say, version X was this long ago? All that seems to matter to me is to know the current version, and to be able to say whether a version is older than current. I'm not a fan of year.date versioning systems because doesn't allow you to communicate the significance o...

Re: name FreeCAD 0.91 instead of 0.20, means version after 0.19 could be 0.91

Agreed. Given that native assembly functionality is the big target of this release cycle I'm all for skipping 0.19 and doing a 1.0 release. Is there a reason to choose 1.0 instead of 19.03? I mean it just because of the year. It is a great indication. Maybe it affects packaging that is why I am ask...

I am intrigued to lock the topic and delete all posts after Werner's great response (+1s and I lock it).
No i really do not think that would be appropriate quite yet. I would like to hear responses from the two people Werner addresses.

Re: name FreeCAD 0.91 instead of 0.20, means version after 0.19 could be 0.91

The FreeCAD project needs a project leader with a clear vision of the project goals and of the road to get there [...] In fact it seems to be a sort of darwinian selelection where many developers make different experiments creating different versions of the same thing. that's the Cathedral and the ...

Re: name FreeCAD 0.91 instead of 0.20, means version after 0.19 could be 0.91

Part and PartDesign are in no way broken. They work as designed and can be used to build (great) models. The very first thing anybody does with any CAD program is the extrusion of a 2D sketch. In FreeCAD, both Part and PartDesign have an "Extrude" function, But they are different and incompatible. ...

Re: How To Tell If Shape is 2D?

One way is by using cross-products on two pairs of vectors and seeing if they are parellel. I do not know if this is the most efficient way but at least it is visual and intuitive. Something like this is my fallback if I can't figure out @wmayer's solution. The recent posts that refer to the boundi...
