Re: Slicing a solid with a surface

There's another older school way from before surface booleans and not so reliant on versions or specialised tools: part extrude the surface beyond the cube and intersect extrusion and cube, then subtract extrusion from cube.

Re: how can I separate one part into two?

Encapsulating the sections in discrete primitives and boolean intersecting each primitive with the part also separates the part.

Re: How do I cycle between objects under cursor to select?

Some apps have an "ambiguity indicator", a list of features within the cursor proximity focus that appears like a tool tip when the cursor is hovered, and the user selects the feature wanted from that list, after which the list disappears.

Re: Convert from wrl to stp

Lots of possible reasons. Another drawback is that .wrl files can be composed of more than one mesh. Try downgrading the file in the Draft WB to see if that shakes anything loose. FreeCAD doesn't do it, I checked that resistor in another app I use, it's composed of thirty meshes, they pass through e...

Re: Can Surface be converted to Solid?

You can extrude surfaces into solids or loft them against other faces or profiles, and trim their other faces using boolean interactions with primitives or other extruded surface. It works well because the edges overlap and trim against each other instead of having to be defined to meet precisely.

Re: Convert from wrl to stp

Wrl models are meshes and they can be open surfaces or manifold (closed volume) surfaces. STEP models are solids, closed objects and they have geometrically precise surfaces which can be curved, meshes can't. There's no direct conversion between the two formats. It can be done, but there's no "batch...

Re: Create Face/Solid from wire

If the wire of the letter is planar, you should be able to extrude it as a solid without a problem. You can extrude the receiving face as a solid, then intersect it with the extruded letter.

Re: How do I measure the vertical distance along an axis?

There's a difference between recovering and measuring outer and inner diameters from .stl objects, too. In my workplace, outer diameters are measured as three-point circles or cylindrical sections interpolated from external vertices, inner diameters as three-point circles/ sections between middle po...
