Re: How to decide between using volumes via the Part WB and using sketches via the Part Design WB?

Is it a question of preference whether to use volumes with the Part WB or sketches which are then padded via the Part Design WB These represent the two fundamental methods of solid modeling. The Part workbench is intended for constructive solid modeling using primitives and boolean operations. Part...

Re: Check Geometry: Shell Not Connected

All look good in 3D display but I get this Check Geometry error. Change Refine to false for each feature and it should check OK. At least for this version: OS: Windows 10 (10.0) Word size of OS: 64-bit Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit Version: 0.19.23463 (Git) Build type: Release Branch: master Hash: a...

I would like to have the case black and the pads gray as in the image.
You can create a single body and color individual faces.
Right click on the last feature and "Set colors..."

Re: Union Help

Just not sure how to deal with it? The loft mirror is an invalid solid so it is likely to fail fusion. Always use Part > check geometry if you have problems. Try to loft between 0 and 1 sketch then another loft between 1, 3, and Sketch004. Mirror both lofts and you should get a valid solid. Then yo...

Re: AR15 Modeling Lower Receiver

Let me know what you think Most excellent model, quite complicated. Thank you for sharing. What version of FreeCAD are you using? I always like to see FreeCAD challenged by an experienced modeller. I enjoyed your video once slowed down to 25% speed. :) I am curious why you seemed to bounce back and...

Re: V0.19 Benchmarking--Intermediate Level Tutorials

...groove to shape the arms,... Yeah, if I were to model it again I would use the groove tool instead of a boolean of two bodies. That is where my model fails geometry check, probably because of co-planar faces. If I slightly increase the outer radius of the revolve so that it is not tangent to the...

Re: V0.19 Benchmarking--Intermediate Level Tutorials

I remember freecad-heini-1 discussed this model in the german subforum. https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=44262 Uses CSG method. How far did you get with the 2020 challenge? I'm not able to apply all fillets. I did get a model with all of the fillets, but Boolean001 did not pass geo...

Re: Help avoiding topo bombs.

Can someone suggest a way I can structure this so that I can have a common base FCStd file which I can save_As and edit for each version of the part? I took a cursory look at your file and immediately noticed that you have attached sketches to faces. This is not recommended if you anticipate any ch...

Re: Assemble and animate complex object with gears

...how can I simply force a ratio between the angle of the two wheels? Any help on how to do this properly with the provided example... I do not use A2+ so cannot help you there, but it can also be done quite simply with the Assembly4 workbench. Please see attached file: simple_mecanism_1-Asm4.FCSt...
