You say your studying engineering. Are you in a class that is using Freecad? Are you teaching the class and are the one that decided to use Freecad for the class?

One reason to be able to put something arbitrary in a dimension is if you have models of the same thing in different sizes. I have seen manuals with drawings of dimensions A, B,C and a table to show the dimensions of each model.

Maybe tools like grouping/fusion and pattern feature that are in other work benches can be added to Draft WB. That may help make parking lot drawings.

there is a macro that removes the perimetric history of a shape and turns it into a dumb shape. doing this with parts that are not open you can save some space. I guess if the changes to the core of FreeCad doesn't involve SolverSpace libraries, then Assembly 3 could be released separately under GPL.
