Re: convert stl to iges/step

Hi Normand, Merci beaucoup for the effort that you made for explaining me how to convert. Ça m'a fait plaisir. ;) I am planning to create the Prusa 3D printer as a 3D model using the stl-parts. It will be a little cumbersome but it is going. Now I understand why you need to work with STL files. Thi...

Re: convert stl to iges/step

Alibre Design is not a mesh modeler. It is a true CAD modeler using the ACIS geometric kernel (found in Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor, SpaceClaim among others).

Re: convert stl to iges/step

I'm going to check, but I don't think you can use the mesh functions and still get cnc machine readable files, even on FreeCAD. Nope, for the reasons stated above. This is what an STL converted to solid looks like: http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/779010FCRodLatch.png If only my wife would let me ...

Re: convert stl to iges/step

One thing to know, v0.11 is getting old, and there were some problems with STL import/export. The 0.12 version, if still dubbed "unstable" (which is why it's not proposed as first choice in the SourceForge download page) is about to come out and is now a "release candidate". It's pretty stable as it...

Re: Export to DXF not working correctly.

I must confess I never catched up on that svn up thing and used to compile from scratch everytime.

I just so totally tired from the lengthy process that I got Werner to set up the Ubuntu Daily Build PPA so I didn't have to compile anymore. :D

Re: Web/Mobile version

As I said, I didn't read the whole thing.

It's just that I was thinking about Android: it's supposed to be open source, but it actually isn't, because Google has refused to publish the Android 3 code so far.

So, maybe I'm paranoid, but I trust Google less and less with their open source efforts. ;)

Re: Export to DXF not working correctly.

By the way, if you're talking about this part , I just tried the DXF export script found here on it (with latest available Ubuntu package), and top view is not usable. I guess "a porcupine with a bad hair day" might be a good description. As for the Drawing workbench, created views are really good, ...

Re: Show your FreeCAD projects here!

Nice gear! Odd thing though, the Cut feature should normally have below it two solids, a big cylinder and a smaller one that cuts the first to create the hole; but it seems to have been lost. Also, the bottom and top gear need to be fused with the cylinder to make it a single part. As for having it ...

Re: Export to DXF not working correctly.

Unfortunately, no. It would be nice to have precompiled packages for most major distributions, but this can be done only by the community. FreeCAD's team is too small to have a dedicated packaging team. Also, one of the problems is that some distros don't consider the Open CASCADE (which FreeCAD nee...

Re: Web/Mobile version

I'm too lazy to read the whole thing, but I'm getting very leery of Google's initiatives, They've started to implement features and technology exclusive to their Chrome/Chromium browser and to hell with the other browsers. Google has implemented the open-source Native Client technology in the Chrome...
