Re: spaceball again

Hi, Is it possible to use space navigator with FreeCAD. No, not at this time. I have some code here that is working for my serial spaceball on linux. I think this code will work for usb devices on linux as xevents for both devices should be the same, but I haven't tested as I don't have a usb devic...

Re: spaceball again

IMHO I don't think it's worth it to try and fake a spaceball with a second mouse. I think when it was done, you would realize that everything you can do with the second mouse has already been implemented in the first mouse and would seem redundant. I understand being frugal with money and I would tr...

Re: Relate parameter values between objects

Coming late to the party on this one, but I was hoping this would come up. In UG it was called expressions. Expressions could be used in multiple features and had the ability to be interpart(linked between files). I wrote a lot of customization code to automatically setup these links between assembl...

Re: spaceball again

zoom to cursor is good also. I never used it much with a spaceball, but I use it a lot in blender. I agree, zoom to cursor and rotate about a point won't be easy. I think they are worthwhile features though. I will play.

Re: spaceball again

thanks for the help. This has been a good introduction to coin/inventor/opengl concepts and programming. I have something here on linux that looks good. I have some ideas and I am going to keep testing. I have some local hacks I need to cleanup. I started looking at the windows side for spaceball su...

Re: spaceball again

But how do you get the information whether to zoom in or out? SoOrthographicCamera *oCam = dynamic_cast<SoOrthographicCamera *>(camera); if (oCam) oCam->scaleHeight(1.0-event->getTranslation()[2]*.02); Spaceball sends numbers in both positive and negative depending on direction of movement. one dir...

Re: spaceball again

Does this produce something usable? Yes, it is working good. And once I quit moving the camera around by z, my clipping plane problem was better (probably going to regret that). As far as the scale factor, that is a good question. Like you, I developed a zoom constant that acted "naturally" with th...

Re: spaceball again

Do you get a zooming effect if you use the perspective camera? yes, zoom works for perspective. zoom for orthographic seems to move the clipping plane. And the z value of SoMotion3Event::getTranslation() of the incoming events does it change its values for the perspective/orthographic camera? No th...

Re: spaceball again

Well I finally got back to this and got something going. Motion3Events seem to be working great except for Z. Reading the following from NavigationStyle::zoom // Since there's no perspective, "zooming" in the original sense // of the word won't have any visible effect. So we just increase // or decr...
