Re: Assembly 4 workbench

I have now broken up that assembly file into several sub-assemblies as you have suggested and certainly agree that the assembly model tree is better organized and easier to work with. I can animate the sub-assemblies in the separate files, but this does not seem possible at the top assembly file. O...

Re: Assembly4: XLink absolute filepath problem

I made a document that contains an Assembly 3 assembly. I used links to pull in parts from several places on my filesystem. Everything is happy and working great. If I move the top-level assembly document to a different folder, every link in my document is broken. That's not a showstopper... I'd pr...

Re: FrenetTB Attachment: which curve types are allowed?

Sad, I thought. And fixed it. Hey, that's a great job! :D I stumbled upon this problem a few months ago, and the only way to get a workaround solution was to use a single B-spline, which was clearly a sub-optimal solution as you pointed out. I really hope your pull request will be accepted, there a...

Re: Assembly4: XLink absolute filepath problem

Yes, I know that it fixes the issue and you may have realized that it's already merged. But before applying the PR I first wanted to confirm the described behaviour and analyzed what happened behind the scene. Great, noticed only now, but thanks! :D This should work perfectly at least for my use ca...

Re: Assembly4: XLink absolute filepath problem

And as said by realthunder the string is only used for comparison. The files are neither accessed nor opened this way. This happens inside the Document class which won't cause any inconsistent behaviour. Also, It seems to me that realthunder's amended PR should be the right fix for the bug, if your...

Re: 0.18 Drafting and dimensioning - Getting the basics right?

As this is a recurring topic: Is it possible to show a dialog on switching to Drawing workbench saying it is deprecated? I think that users who still need to edit old files could well live with it. I have always wondered, why is it that Drawing WB hasn't been completely removed? Nobody uses it any ...

Re: Center of circle relative to edge.

After 08ba104d87 curved edges are accepted as input to linear dimensions. This may address the issue raised in the initial post. Cool! It even seems to work with elliptical edges, which have often seemed to be problematic in TD. Thanks, this is a good addition :D 20200830_FreeCAD_Elliptic_TD_dims.p...

Re: unique object id

in BIM work flow an object is identified with the uuid. Thus from the first project modells to the construction models the id of one object should not change, even if the project was exported to ifc a hundred times. Thats how it works ATM in BIM projects. Hmm, in that case the export*.py files in A...

Re: IFC export

I have been thinking ... - we would need a new property. This property is like the FreeCAD name unique and can not be changed by the user - this property is the id which will be used for ifc export. - this id will be generated for every object on object creation (like the unique name) - may be such...

Re: unique object id

What's the issue with using "Name"? I would guess the fact that "Name" is only unique within a single document might cause problems. I mean if someone App->Link:s some containers from other files, the objects within the linked container (a file) may well have duplicate object names (in respect to t...
