Re: torsional moment

Thanks for this information. I will have a look soon. In the meantime I had a try with BEM (boundary element method). The cool thing is that if gauss is used the resulting moment can be expressed as a boundary integral of the unknowns (and not of the derivative like in the fem approach). And so only...

torsional moment

As allready discussed here http://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=4973&start=30 I would like to make a small script which calculate the torsional moment for any section. I found a paper http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/civil-and-environmental-engineering/1-571-structural-analysis-and-control-spr...

Re: pyBar

I see, this task is a bit more difficult
Maybe the FEM module could be used to numerically evaluate it.
You are right, maybe the calculix heat-equation could be (ab)used for this task.

Re: subclassing a sketch

thanks, I have never understood this approach. Why does freecad not use the standart inheritance methodes?

Re: pyBar

box.MatrixOfInertia haha it would have been so easy. Hi, I'm a bit rusty at this, but the real difficulty is to determine the torsional moment of inertia for non simple sections. this should be the z value in the 3. row in MatrixOfInertia. Also the polar Moment could be calculated with the same met...

Re: pyBar

A little question that annoys me, the pybar files needs the quadratic moments from the sections of the structural members. I had a try on this. The code use simplest integration, so not very accurate. Also it would be better to go through every edge and discretize it instead of discretize the wire....

subclassing a sketch

why isn't it possible to subclass the sketch-class from python? from Sketcher import Sketch class not_working_subclass(Sketch): def test(self): print("why is this not working") a = not_working_subclass() a.test() <type 'exceptions.AttributeError'>: 'Sketcher.Sketch' object has no attribute 'test'

set name of QTimer

set QTimer-object names in mainWindow to have access from python.

Re: add a menu

ok i have changed the plan and want to add the action to any existing menu from the icon toolbar. So I tried this: mw = Gui.getMainWindow() view_menu = mw.findChild(QtGui.QMenu, "&View") dummy_action = QtGui.QAction("dummy_widget", view_menu) view_menu.addAction(dummy_action) I would also be happy i...
