Re: Discussion: An strategy for introducing FreeCAD as a first CAD/CAE/CAM software.

I would second vocx's advice to postpone the introduction of Spreadsheets. Besides that the very first introduction depends on the background of your newbies. Do they have a more technical background? Then you may well start with PartDesign. Or are they just average persons like my mother in law or...

Re: Discussion: An strategy for introducing FreeCAD as a first CAD/CAE/CAM software.

I was wonswring if a more or less agreed strategy could be established here to present FreeCAD to people, as a first approach to the CAD / CAM / CAE world. ... Yes, it sounds good. I personally wouldn't introduce the Spreadsheet Workbench immediately. That's a bit of an advanced topic. I would firs...

Discussion: Strategy for introducing FreeCAD as a first CAD/CAE/CAM software.

Good Morning. I was wondering if a more or less agreed strategy could be established here to present FreeCAD to people, as a first approach to the CAD / CAM / CAE world. As you can understand, the population I am thinking of consists of people without prior knowledge of 3D design or the management o...

Re: Feature Request: Automatic attatchment offset setting

Not sure understanding the idea... The idea is that after going to: Property -> Attatchment ->Attatchment Offsets ->Position -> x, y or z coordinate, the value column have another icon (beside the expression icon (f)) for which after pressing it one can choose any point on the model for assigning i...

Feature Request: Custom button

Don't you think it would be useful if one could add button(s) to FreeCAD bar for performing job(s) of our choice?
For example, frequently used macro(s) could be run in just one click.

Re: Feature Request: Automatic attatchment offset setting

...if you just want to copy the value of some coordinate I'm afraid it supports a rather non parametric way of modeling. ...well, the effect would be of assigning the (referenced) value of the selected coordinate to the respective offset. In fact that coordinate (and any other one) would depends on...

Re: Feature Request: Automatic attatchment offset setting

Would you mind to explain the use case? It sounds to me as if you should better use some attachment of the objects, or as if it would be better to transfer the value as an expression. (...one application but not the only one..) Suppose that as you develop a project, you want to make an sketch for e...

Feature Request: Automatic attatchment offset setting

How hard could be to implement a kind of expression field function, AOSF, for setting the attachment offsets automatically in the following way?: Select an entity and go to its attachment offset Select the coordinate, say X, you want to modify its attachment offset. Press a button associated to AOSF...

What do you mean by "differentiating"? giving them distinct look, such as a different color?
Yes, that's the idea.
Indeed I was thinking on colors when I began to write the post. But different symbols would work too...

PS: Once again excuse me for my poor english please...
