Beware of FreeCAD version used !
Between 0.16 and 0.17, the following features behave differently:
- Part Join Connect,
- Export to IGES, STEP, ...

... area where to post tools that are desired for better architectural work. or, if it's only for the Arch module, you can start a new thread in the Arch section. For me, Arch module's improvement need, first, Draft module's improvement (drawing aid). It's why I think a wider audience is necessary....
