Re: App::link of sketch in PD Body

now with the regular binder: cross_file_bind_05.PNG editing the support link reveals that only the current file is in scope cross_file_bind_06.PNG direct drag and drop is explictly prohibited these are the only methods i have found so far to interact with the contents of the binder. if the body is a...

Re: App::link of sketch in PD Body

Be warned though, claiming children gives you the false impression that the sketch belongs to the binder's body, while it may belong to an external body, or even in a different document. Trying to edit the sketch... that is exactly the behavior i want. in most cases, i do not want the referenced ob...

Sorry if I missed it or if I'm misunderstanding your idea, but why is subshapebinder not useful for this?
does subshapebinder work across files? i haven't seen any examples of that. i assumed some type of app::link would be needed, it's the only mechanism i've seen communicate across files.

the user has to re-create a sketch in the assembly (which is also a part) and match the sketches parameters on the imported sketch (this can be parametric but has to be done for each part
yes officer, that workflow right there, that's the workflow that robbed me! yes i want to press charges.

Re: App::link of sketch in PD Body

sometimes the sketch i want to publish will be somewhere in the middle of a complex model sequence. and i want to publish this sketch so other parts can use it any way they wish. with app::link, creating this specific link to a sketch is easy. the only difficulty is what Part Design can use, and wha...

Re: App::link of sketch in PD Body

i did it for the base feature, but it could be later in the design tree as well. i could insert again, place the insert elsewhere, extrude again. So what you really want is a scripted object that can extrude a profile along a path why set up a restricted method that only works with a library tool, w...

Re: App::link of sketch in PD Body

Actually, it's not true for SolidWorks, sorry. In SolidWorks one can only create sketches and datum objects, not solids, inside an assembly, and one cannot import a part into another part i'm not sure if this is addressed to my statement, but i do this regularly in solidworks. new part file, make s...

Re: App::link of sketch in PD Body

In those CAD systems based on the Parasolid kernel, using linked sketches to make solids is not possible: the user has to re-create a sketch in the assembly (which is also a part) and match the sketches parameters on the imported sketch (this can be parametric but has to be done for each part). Thi...
