Re: App::link of sketch in PD Body

so if the Part Design devs are not interested in taking advantage of link for their own purposes here's what a workaround might look like: a "contraband" container for links. if he had the time and we could agree on a price, i would gladly pay Realthunder to make something look like a sketch but is ...

Re: App::link of sketch in PD Body

link is amazing. if you send a link to console, >>> # Gui.Selection.addSelection('link_amazeballs','Part','Link.') >>> ### Begin command Std_SendToPythonConsole >>> obj = App.getDocument("link_amazeballs").getObject("Link") >>> ### End command Std_SendToPythonConsole >>> obj <App::Link object> >>> i...

Re: App::link of sketch in PD Body

I don't think that App::Link works that way: the linked object is not really there, you only see an image of it, like a hologram of an object is not really there, even though you can see it. FreeCAD works in layers (like onions) and one layer is the OCC layer, one is the 3D-Coin layer. An App::Link...

+ points for A3 and A4: live edit of assembly components in assembled view: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMYmNhR4KpY + point for A4 LCS. by using a simple low level object like the LCS, and attaching it to a sketch, i can move my parts around live by editing the sketch: https://www.youtube.com/wa...

if i could write C++ i'd offer a PR :)

just guessing, but it could even use the same "toggle construction" UI button. However i have no clue what is involved in outputting geometry.

App::link of sketch in PD Body

Does an App::link of a sketch not provide the data needed by Part Design Body to use it as a sketch? Or does the workbench actively track down App::links and prohibit them? in the rest of the post i say "i" a lot. i don't mean it as a demand. i don't want to say "you", because i can't speak for you....

Sketcher linked geometry

is there a strong reason externally linked geometry cannot have an option to be used as sketch geometry? it seems that as it is, it behaves more or less like construction geometry. i know the solver has to do more work with construction geometry, but that not what i'm talking about. what i mean is t...

Re: Parts vs. Bodies

I've been following FreeCAD since 2003 when the project was registered as a project using the opencascade kernel and the FreeCAD project on sourceforge had nothing to download and no documentation. I don't it is possible to even imagine the monumental amount of debate and energy the part/body issue ...

Re: Assembly 4 workbench

i found a partial workaround that was somewhat hidden. i can edit the variable and specify "in" after the numerical value. i get a warning that units will be dropped, which leads me to believe this plan won't work. when i hit ok, the units disappear, but the inch value was properly converted to mm. ...

Re: Assembly 4 workbench

in preferences, general, units, i have "imperial decimal" selected. i create an Assembly4 variable, "Ins_h_00", and assign it the value 2. in a sketch, i use the formula editor to assign the variable "Variables.Ins_h_00" to a dimension. the formula editor shows 2 as the result, and i hit ok. the ins...
