Re: Manage constraints through sub-assembly ?

very anecdotal data point. in solidworks, flexible assemblies are useful early on, when first joining subassemblies, but very quickly lead to what i'll call 'solver locking errors'. stuff that still seems simple stops moving. actuator assemblies of two major groups (single dof) lock up mid drag acti...

Re: Cycloidal Drive Gearbox

the bearing and bushing stuff is all optional, but i kinda like this design here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IfH93HYcpo at 0:53 this one is fun too, gives an idea of the total number of parts involved in the end. Especially intersting is the 1-2-1 inertia ratio of the 3 disk system for cancell...

Re: Cycloidal Drive Gearbox

A dimension stack makes sense. I don't know how to do that with FreeCad, or are you talking about a python solution? I don't mean the "stack" data structure. linked dimensions, individual clearances, and individual dimension tolerances, lead to a "tolerance stack" that needs to be checked for prope...

Re: Cycloidal Drive Gearbox

editing cycloidal disk height behaves differently in the parameters object, versus in the body's parameter list. I would have guessed that these parameters were synced. this occured while i was trying to bring the gearbox back to its original state after my 1 edit shown in the previous posts pics be...

Re: Cycloidal Drive Gearbox

I'm introducing scaling which is probably messing things up that's what i was guessing. a dimension stack might be preferable: each dimension is either driving or a function of relevant other dimensions. you can even include various clearances as driving dimensions. in my picture above, the driver ...

Re: Cycloidal Drive Gearbox

this is kind of a random thought, and i hope it doesn't across as a distraction, but i thought i'd share it anyways: it would be really freaking sweet if all top view profiles were created as individual sketches/wires that the designer could then offset and extrude to their preferences. if the gear ...

Re: Cycloidal Drive Gearbox

first attempt froze, second attempt worked! i am not sure how to interpret the collection of lines and faces in the center of the output shaft. Are they construction references? Screenshot from 2020-01-05 15-51-12.png am i correct in interpreting that the eccentric key is rigidly attached to the ecc...

Re: Cycloidal Drive Gearbox

looks fun, i want to try it! license stuff: not a developer myself, but wanted to share some thoughts. maybe im missing something, but the following is how i see things for now. not investing your personal efforts in developing gpl v3 is a legitimate concern, if you are fully devoted to lgpl. being ...

What's wrong with...
nothing wrong at all, and i may use it later. Right now isInstance() wins by a hair since it will perform the limited job i need with 0 changes to the class definition and object creation method. i could even implement the other method in parallel.
