Mac dev Py3 / QT5 version - does not start

Hi All, Was trying the FreeCAD_0.18-16079-OSX-x86_64-conda-Qt5-Py3.dmg version from the download page, but can't seem to get it to start. Nothing happens when I try to click the icon, if I try to run from spotlight, it says "Finder cannot open this application". Using open from the command line I ge...

I put into Google Search 'tophat section bracket' and it returned similar designs as your highlighted item.
Aha - yes, top hat seems to be the word I was looking for! Also "stand off" bracket which appeared in connection with it when I searched your term.

Thanks!!!

Type of fixing / bracket...

Hi All, This is not really a Freecad question, but since I'm doing some design with Freecad involved, I thought it was ok to post!! I'm building a new computer for my rowing machine, and I need to fix mount a reed switch connected to a replacement front panel. The sensor will go on the end of the br...

Re: Assembly3 preview

Hi All, Doing some more testing while designing my barn door startracker. Of course, complete overkill to model the hinge, but it's fun to play around with Assembly 3 anyway! For some reason though, I've got to the point where I can't move the pieces of my hinge; a coplanar face constraint for the h...

Re: Moment of inertia

As a sidenote, just notice that it is quite easy to measure the value of the moment of inertia of objects as flywheels. ;) If you're able to easily get it unmounted, it could be a good exercise/confirmation. Thanks - that's quite an interesting thought - but in fact I think it would be a real pain ...

Re: Moment of inertia

Took a little digging out but this seems to be what you're looking for https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... 09#p104153 I just tried it on a cone on the Z axis and the line of Python worked using: Perfect, thank you very much! App.ActiveDocument.ActiveObject.Shape.copy().getMomentOfInertia(Ap...

Moment of inertia

Hi All, Have bought myself a cheapo rowing machine, but the computer that comes with it is exceedingly crap (can't even measure strokes accurately!), so thought I'd have a bit of fun building a new one with a raspberry pi! I'll be adding a new sensor on the flywheel (it only measure the cord being p...

Re: Part, PartDesign and Assemblies

Hi, Just to add my thoughts, since I had a bit of a play with Assembly 3 the other day. What I propose is that the App::Part be indeed the assembly container, that can contain either directly a PartDesign::Body, or several ones, to form a physical part, or App::Link links to other App::Parts and the...

Re: Assembly3 preview

Update: actually I found that wrapping each part in an assembly, then combining those into another assembly seemed to work nicely!

Re: Assembly3 preview

Hi All, Testing (and trying to find my way round A3!) on OSX. I wanted to use a angle constraint to pivot the two plates around a hinge (indicated by the red line). See attached file. The axial constraint works fine to link the two plates. The angle constraint gives an issue though, I just get the m...
