Re: Sketcher Lecture

Yes, understand inside/outside depending on sketcher used. But why choose one way over the other?? What is the benefit of each?? Its as simple as this, if you are PartDesign workbench then the sketch must be inside a body, but sketches can be used in many official and add-on workbenches, where most...

Re: DimensionXXX has invalid 2D References

Well, after a backup, I removed the bodies without origin from the project, plus some outdated techdraws and everything is OK now. About the missed origins: is there a way to manage it, without redraw everything? Thanks! Bodies can not have no axis system/origin, if they do then something is corrup...

Re: A thought on a topological naming error fix process

It doesn't work the way you think and its more complex. If this was so easy to fix it would have been fix a decade ago. FreeCAD will always give OCC the modified model and let it process it, if OCC shows no errors then FreeCAD makes it the new valid model, if there are errors then the user has to fi...

Re: How to create a simple flared cube from 4 sketches

1) your maths used to calculate the vertical height is wrong. You are using Pythagoras' theorem but you are only calculating allowing for a slope in one plane, you have to allow for a slope in two planes, so if viewed from above you have to use Pythagoras' theorem to find the hypotenuse of a right ...

Re: How to create a simple flared cube from 4 sketches

Thanks everyone I'm posting my semi final project file as reference to anyone else who might find it useful. The base of the planter is optional! The parameters are set in a spreadsheet and dynamically update the shape which is fantastic functionality! I have had a quick look at your file. So notes...

Re: Loft to solid not available

the wiki here..https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Part_Loft shows a solid option and how to change a non solid to solid. How do I post a file? Like I said earlier, you are confusing two different workbenches/tools, the one you read/linked to is Part WB but the one you are actually using is the PartDesign ...

Re: Freecad topoligical naming and datum planes

3-selecting solid face and create sketch then detach it : solves topological naming problem but creates non parametric models. Another problem with that "detaching" idea is that it is very likely to cause another issue that makes you PartDesign body no longer valid if you update something the wrong...

I assume that you are not trying to run FreeCAD in a virtual machine? You have installed a real Linux partition?

Re: FreeCAD laggy and crashes

Why is FreeCAD so laggy and crashing so often? it's not. So possibly an old or a packaging issue? Where did you get FreeCAD from, which version/packaging system? FrreCAD 0.18 install FreeCAD 0.19 and see if your problems disappear. If you still get problems then post the error messages. FreeCAD use...

Re: Loft to solid not available

I've read your post and appreciate the input. If you're correct, can you please explain to me why Freecad gives my the error "performing union on non-solids is not possible" As drmacroi said, something in your file is not valid. my best guess is that you have a non-valid sketch. Is this error messa...
