Re: Making stuff available for external python programming.

Yes and am trying to change the structure for new workbenches in branch newWorkbench Please have a look at the changes added in my fork. Maybe this gives you some hints how to move on. It doesn't fully work yet, but at least the workbench is partially loaded. Now paths and imports needs to change a...

Re: Making stuff available for external python programming.

I'm confused :( Is this still the correct repo https://github.com/KeithSloan/FreeCAD_Python_GDML ? If so it looks pure python? Yes and am trying to change the structure for new workbenches in branch newWorkbench What exactly are you trying to do? Do you want to be-able to use 2+ different versions ...

Re: Making stuff available for external python programming.

How does one debug? i.e. How does one go about finding out what is wrong? Like where are the messages to console? etc Debug what? Which messages? More information, please! How to debug your own workbench? Well, it's your code, you should know where the functions are that may cause problems. There i...

Re: Making stuff available for external python programming.

Since it's an external workbench, it should be picked up automatically by any FreeCAD version if it's in the user's directory. NOT an ACCEPTABLE solution. I am trying to update so have created a branch. If a user reports a bug I need to be able to switch back to master and test with freecad Don't w...

Re: Making stuff available for external python programming.

Okay I made a start on restructuring by creating a new branch but it is not being recognized. How does one debug? I am starting in ~/FreeCAD_Python_GDML/freecad running freecad-daily I don't understand your question. The "connect" message is harmless, that's a separate issue and it shouldn't matter...

Re: Making stuff available for external python programming.

The recommendation is to develop new-style workbenches. This has the benefits that the code is better packaged for inclusion into PyPi, and installable with pip. See Workbench-Starterkit .
