Re: GSOC 2020 (Voice your opinion and ideas about what to propose for the next gsoc)

There have been a number of attempts at Assembly. I don't know much about them, but would a GSOC on Assembly be a good idea? The reason I ask it that lack of Assembly is often quoted by FreeCAD Naysayers. Would it be too much work for a GSOC? Implementation still has too much to be determined? Avail...

Re: Help on drawing a worm gear with its involute gear

As you can see, it is a simple solid shape that cannot be edited (polyhedron001 is the other half). I wouldn't be surprised if it were actually generated as a mesh, then converted as a solid. Nope : OpenSCAD polyhedrons are constructed as Part::Polygons and Part::FilledFaces. The reason it looks me...

Re: Help on drawing a worm gear with its involute gear

@keithsloan52 could you possibly weigh in on this ? Had a quick look.and I think it is not going to be easy to track down the problem. 1) If he cannot run any scad files then most likely is that FreeCAD does not know where OpenSCAD is installed. See setting in OpenSCAD workbench preferences. To tes...

Re: Making stuff available for external python programming.

Weil I don't think my Workbench would install via the Addon Manager. My install instructions say to clone the repository via git and then run a script to softlink into FreeCAD. There is a script for Linux and one for Mac. I accept that Windows is more of a problem. But having done the above to pick ...

Re: Making stuff available for external python programming.

The new-style module structure is a much cleaner approach and tries to solve some issues introduced by the old style. At one point we might change all modules to the new-style and deprecate the old way. So if you have the choice go for the new-style. If you don't care about it feel free to do what ...

Re: Making stuff available for external python programming.

The answer was this thread, Macros to python script issue. Code: Select all import sys # add folder containing FreeCAD.pyd, FreeCADGui.pyd to sys.path sys.path.append("C:/Program Files/FreeCAD 0.18/bin") # example for Windows sys.path.append("/usr/lib/freecad/lib") # example for Linux import FreeCA...

Re: Making stuff available for external python programming.

The recommendation is to develop new-style workbenches. This has the benefits that the code is better packaged for inclusion into PyPi, and installable with pip. See Workbench-Starterkit. Is this now the official position? When I asked before I was told that it was a particular effort rather than o...

Making stuff available for external python programming.

Okay in my FreeCAD GDML workbench I have implemented a number of classes that implement GDML objects as FreeCAD python Objects as part of the workbench but What do I have to do to make them available for python scripting? Note I would much prefer to NOT restrict this to running as a FreeCAD macro i....

Re: FEM anaylsis of GDML Designs.

Okay I have had a go at adding materials and thermal properties but am not sure how I can check if it worked. Get the impression that the values have not been set. testA.FCStd Coding print(mat) in the code outputs {'Name': 'SSteel0x56070ee87d10', 'Density': '1.0 kg/m^3', 'ThermalConductivity': '2.0 ...
