Thanks for the replies. I think the problem was related to some files modified in the science repo. I reverted back to system and all is working fine now.

Sua versão do FreeCAD 0.16 está muita atrasada. Instale uma versão mais recente estável 0.18

Para assembly utilize o A2PLUS, o Assembly2 está deprecado e sem manutenção.
Para instalar o A2Plus vá na barra de menus: Tools->Addons manager: Escolha A2Plus e use o botão Instalar.

I was wrong. This problem is also DE dependent.
I was using Plasma DE. Changed to lxqt DE and the problem went away. Same with lxde DE
Thanks for following up on this.

Yes, I checked with the appImage.

1. The "Open document" dialog is DE related. Works fine with the appimage.

2. The height of the View->Preferences window frame will still show up with the appimage. Probably hard coded with the creation of the window.

On a second thought your are probably right about the Desktop env. I am using OpenSUSE KDE Plasma 5.
