Re: [Feature Request] hierarchical sketches with layers

as example some objects could have a Label2 property, it would not be a sin to say use Label2 and write as example "L1 O 0,0,0" on this an the WB will use and parse this label2 property as "Layer1" Offset 0,0,0 or whatever you want. A generic label would indeed be good to transf...

Re: [Feature Request] hierarchical sketches with layers

Perhaps greatly simplifying, but this appears to be a request to support a user-defined "library" of predefined sketch components that can be loaded and positioned as a whole, but otherwise are fixed in shape. Very good synthesis. I would just add the following points: library shapes may ...

Re: [Feature Request] hierarchical sketches with layers

so the real work should be done by this "techology file object" or maybe "Layer position object" (LPO) Exactly. In fact this work should be left to a different WB, or more precisely to a set of different WBs because there are many different formats of techology files that depend...

Re: [Feature Request] hierarchical sketches with layers

sounds to me like you want to add a lot of stuff to a single sketch. This is normally not a good idea as the solver slow downs and might become unusable if there are too many constraints to solve. When a sub-sketch is imported in another sketch the sub-sketch constraints should not be imported. The...

Re: [Feature Request] hierarchical sketches with layers

You want to have a 2d layer that have a layer number that will determine the Z position (viewed from top), ie layer 0 is the lower and layer 4 is the upper? Not exactly. In the frame of PCB design the mapping between layer numbers and their physical meaning is established in a separate file (usaual...

[Feature Request] hierarchical sketches with layers

Hi @abdullah, would it possible to add a hierarchical structure in the sketch WB.The idea is to put lower level sketches into an upper level sketch as it happens with parts in an assembly. This workflow would be very useful in the design of PCBs and other planar Electromagnetic structures. You may h...

But is it in the list of available addons or it is just installed, as a requisite, when you install assembly3 ?

Ok. So when yoy say addon you are actually meaning py-slvs.
But I wouldn't call it an addon. Addons are the modules installed with FreeCAD Addon Manager. Not the python modules that the user installs with pip.

Re: Licensing

FC van be distributed ad LGPL and the solver add-on with GPL. Yes the solver (py-slvs) is licensed under GPLv3 but it is not included in the Assembly3 module. On my platform it had to be installed separately in python3 giving the command sudo pip3 install py-slvs So, if Assembly3 doesn't include an...

sliptonic wrote: Fri Mar 24, 2023 1:25 pm According to the compatibility matrix on Gnu.org the combined product is GPL3
If both components (FreeCAD and Assembly3) are licensed under LGPL (as I was suggesting) why should the combined product become GPL3 ?
