Hmm, I think I should be able to add an "emissive colour" to the material, it is mentioned here: https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Material as property called EmissiveColor
I tried adding EmissiveColor as a property to the arch material, but it didn't seem to do anything. Any ideas?

Re: Backlight not working on Mac
Are you aware that the Backlight color is used for the backside of faces? in other words you will not see this color when looking at solids from the outside. Aha. I thought it was supposed to add some degree of "ambient" light. In the picture below, faces A and B are both the same materia...

Re: Backlight not working on Mac
Backlight is a global setting and doesn't depend on particular objects. You set it in the preferences under Viewer > 3D Viewer and there you should select another color than black. Thanks, indeed, this is what I have done, but to no avail - nothing seems to change. I have quit Freecad and restarted...

Backlight not working on Mac
Hi All, For some reason I can't get the backlight working in FreeCAD (not sure if I ever did in fact!): does anyone else have this issue? There was a trick previously to get around it, by adding some lighting to the material appearance - but it doesn't seem possible in Arch using materials. It's a b...

Arch site: problem setting terrain
Hi All, Playing around a bit with the BIM workbench, and would like to model my house site. The attached file has a mesh "newterrain3". With Part "Create Shape from Mesh", I'm able to create a shape fairly quickly with the default tolerance (I haven't included that in the file to...

Re: Saving and loading preferences?
You can use the command line switches to use several different configuration files. https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Start_up_and_Configuration#Command_line_options Thanks - in fact the link to the config file location is very handy too, I can probably do something to swap those! Thanks to the others wh...

Saving and loading preferences?
Hi All, Quick question - is anyone aware of any way I can save and load sets of preferences? Or ideally save preferences within the FreeCAD file? I use FreeCAD for various things from small 3d printed objects, through slightly bigger designs to more architectural sized things. And each time I swap b...

Re: FreeCAD Vector() is a "point in space" or an "oriented segment"?
Perhaps think of it like this: the 3 numbers are magnitudes, not co-ordinates.
So, vector(2,0,0) is a vector of magnitude 2 pointing along the x axis.

Std Link and the Transform tool
Hi All, One thing I just noticed when using Std Link with Part Design, is that the transform tool doesn't seem to work on the linked body, at least for me: - Create a body with some object in it. - Create a std link to the body. - The transform tool works on the original but is greyed out when the l...

Re: Assembly 3 - angle constraints
In my (limited) experience, the answer to both questions is YES, and even with the sketch you will end up with things "flipping" on you :( unless you adopt special measures. That's why animation will work (because you moving small step at a time) when simple rotation might (will) fail. Ot...
