Please check in your FEM preferences that you are pointing to an existing ccx.exe I have see this behaviour before if that file does not exist

I have not used this in a while
Still works fine on latest master I attache example based on latest master

They have mesh regions built in for cfmesh which creates hex mesh They also have a nice selection filter for surfaces.
A feature I have been missing in FEM The only problem I see for FEM is the Wedge elements

Maybe see how you can use cfmesh from the CFD workbench
