Re: Datum Plane orientation request

I do like the visual aid of an LCS. I'll have to give it a go in my next assembly model.
Zolko wrote: Thu Jan 24, 2019 4:33 pm strange .... dunno
I suppose one of us should submit a bug report if someone can duplicate the behavior
with the latest development version 0.18.15697.

Re: Datum Plane orientation request

Zolko wrote: Thu Jan 24, 2019 4:06 pm As I understand, you can have only 1 Origin in a Part or Body, but you can have many LCS
But, you can have any number of sketch attachment offsets.
Zolko wrote: Thu Jan 24, 2019 4:06 pm try with the "AttachmentOffset" (2 lines below)
Same, same result.

Re: Datum Plane orientation request

in the attached demo, select Local_CS001, and then change AttachmentOffsets (Z and Roll for example) in the Property window Thank you for the example. I am trying to understand the advantages of the LCS compared to the Body origin and sketch attachment properties. When I try to make any attachment ...

Re: Fatal error when filleting

Bug or user error? If you zoom on the juncture between the arc and face21 you will see a discontinuity which the fillet cannot handle. The reason is the dimension 5 mm thickness in your sketch003. As Chrisb noted, even if you fix the thickness the fillet may succeed but the solid will likely be inv...

Re: Reorient alternatives? Or, am I doing it wrong?

I assume that you are using the PartDesign workbench and V0.17 or later. You can avoid the topo issues by simply attaching the sketches to one of the origin planes or a master sketch and then offsetting and/or rotating the sketch using attachment offset, as required. You can also copy these sketches...

Re: 2 Cylinder Fire eater engine

Most excellent! I always enjoy the incredible detail in your models and your choice of colors in the renderings. Several questions: 1. Did you use the assembly workbench(A2plus)? 2. Are all the bodies in one file? 3. How did you make those complicated 3D springs? Any detail on how you created some o...

Make sure that the second body is activated and that the first body sketch that you are referencing with the shapebinder is hidden (invisible).
Gets me every time.

Re: FC ready for commercial work?

Again my vote: FC is ready for commercial use (correction: it IS in use... :) ) Thanks to all the developers, keep up the spirit! Merry Christmas +1 I have been using FreeCAD since V0.13 commercially as an independent engineering consultant in mechanical design and analysis. I probably spend 30% of...

Re: assembly without solver

More-or-less for fun, not proper engineering. I have 50+ years of mechanical design and development that begs to differ, again. Cut my teeth on full-on Unigraphics implementation in a $200M international engineered-products company. There is usually more than one way to productively 'skin the cat'....

Zolko wrote: Mon Dec 17, 2018 5:19 pm could I reuse the cylinder head to make a boxer ?
Of course, you simply export the body.
Zolko wrote: Mon Dec 17, 2018 5:19 pm And when I modify the cylinder head in the boxer, it's also modified in the star engine ?
Not yet...but wouldn't that be wonderful?
