Re: BIM/Arch development news articles from Yorik's blog
In this case, "lock" I think is exactly what we want, because we do want it to sound restrictive. In many aspects of CAD, "restriction" is a good thing, something we want. It definitely means restricting the freedom. But iFC is a strict, carefully tailored standard. So if the sof...

Re: Structural Steel Detailing - CET.SteelConnDesign ?
I understand ;) No problem, there is space for everyone, and we also want to have a healthy commercial / non-commercial relationship around FreeCAD. And I believe having pro tools that rely on FreeCAD is something potentially good for everybody. I'll be curious to see more of this, please keep shari...

Re: BIM/Arch development news articles from Yorik's blog
Could you please tell us more about this "lock" concept ? I see two scenarios here, and they both seem to me equally important: 1) You want to use both IFC objects and not IFC objects in your FreeCAD document. That is, using the full power of FreeCAD while working on a BIM project, with o...

Cross-posting from https://yorik.uncreated.net/blog/2024-002-freecad-news-16 Hi all! Here we are for a new update showing what I am doing currently with FreeCAD , specifically on the BIM and NativeIFC fronts. Re: Can I clone a workbench, i.e. PartDesign
I think the easiest way would be to do a very minimal workbench and add all the commands of PartDesign. Have a look at https://wiki.freecad.org/Workbench_creation But there might be further mechanisms of PartDesign that might not be available that way...

Re: IFC driven top down parametric design
I generally agree with RayAtFreecad though that the window tool is often clumsy and hard to use. I myself end up mostly in creating the window first, outside of any wall, then including it manually. What you call "bottom-up" is actually a try at working around a limitation of FreeCAD, that...

Cross-posting from https://yorik.uncreated.net/blog/2024-001-freecad-1-roadmap This is a better road map of what I envision for BIM/Arch/IFC features for FreeCAD 1.0 Arch/BIM/NativeIFC integration Currently, the BIM feature set in FreeCAD relies on 3 different modules: Arch, which is built-in, BIM, ...

Re: BIM/Arch development news articles from Yorik's blog
These "magical dimensions" in Revit are indeed some very special feature. At the moment Draft dimensions are "dumb" somehow, they can only show the dimension being measured. But there could be a way to tie them to something else. That's a whole new project, though!
