Re: A little question about STEP export of subelements
Follow-up... The two brackets were created identically (same origin) so, when exported (whether or not from a Part or Assembly) they open/import with respect to the origin at creation. You can open each bracket and verify the origin/locations are the same. I suspect if the second bracket had been cr...

Re: A little question about STEP export of subelements
I think the issue has to do with Assembly - I don’t use Assembly workbench so I can't say for certain - I just build assemblies in a Part using Bodies (in PartDesign wb). That way I can count of relations with respect to the origin. Example: Baseplate (a body with Hole). Plug (a body). Hex (a body)....

Re: How to make an outer thread on a cylinder / shaft?
Pretty simple... Here are two ways: 1- Male ) Make an extruded (padded) rod, add a Helix from Part workbench, add an external thread (using AdditivePipe) of your preference. Basically, like making a Bolt. 1-Female ) Like above, make a rod of a diameter large enough for the threads, add a helix and a...

Re: S curved sweep in 3D space
Yes, I did use her file. But, without any meaningful background, to me, it is simply a ‘playing-around with FreeCad’ file. Thus, I provide my own. However, this uses her file - I simply made a Datum & Path and lofted it. The path without meaningful data is eyeballed… and used the multisectional ...

Re: S curved sweep in 3D space
A couple of points: Isabel included this/these lines: •I want to create an S-Shaped tube •I wanted to use a DatumPlane • Any help would be appreciated I directed my post to Isabel, not you (NormanC) and assume Isabel can choose to use or, not use the info. I figure by her having spent enough time wi...

Re: S curved sweep in 3D space
The beginning and end of the extrusion follows the path so, you can also eliminate the straight lines and make the radius' angled as you want... But, I indicated the ending (and beginning) circles can be made at any angle... If you tweak my files, you can see... Here, I simply changed the ending st...

Re: S curved sweep in 3D space
Did this in Part Design. Two circles and one Path. Using Sweep (Additive Loft). Could use two sketches of two circles and do a Multi section loft (same process and input panel). Path has Straight lines at top and bottom of the S-curve. S-curve is simply two Radius' tangent to each other (and to the ...

Re: Principal Stress Plots
Thank you :D The pipeline of results in FC on Mac Sierra is worthless - text/values are not readable and not tweakable. Color was ok but, without Legend/Values it's useless. I saw this post and simply downloaded ParaView and opened a .vtk file I exported from FC. Did not watch any vid's or read any ...

Re: FreeCAD scoffs at my cuts...
A sketching ‘Tip’ Sketching with “Line” tool puts a node at each end of the line. If you start a line from the end node of the previous line, the start node of new line may not be constrained to the previous node - it’s a bit fussy getting them selected. That’s why I set the Node size to 9px in pref...

Re: FreeCAD scoffs at my cuts...
Here are two files - both done in PartDesign
1- using simple extruded sketch
2- using Loft
The principle works regardless of exact shape...
Play with them...
