You say a lot of things that make sense. And I agree. Let me ask this:

Are you saying that a word sensored solution for the other points is unacceptable, or do you find the concepts fundamentally abhorrent?

Re: Issues 1665 & 1666; Symbolic links & backups

I don't know what would be better from FreeCAD point of view if this area would be tackled. To save backup files at symbolic link location or at the original file location. In my opinion it it only sane to operate at the link location. If you wanted backups at the original location, that is where y...

Re: Issues 1665 & 1666; Symbolic links & backups

I am not sure about the symbolic links. If I create a symbolic link - and it has been pointed out, that this does not happen accidentally - then it should behave like a file in the very place of it's creation. Perhaps that's exactly what I want: have a kind of temporary place where all the editing ...

Re: Issues 1665 & 1666; Symbolic links & backups

the thing that happens now kind of makes sense too  . It just reveals how exactly FreeCAD writes out files and backups - as efficient as it can possibly be. For certain definitions of "makes sense." ;) I do not dispute the efficiency, but IMO there is no way that secretly renaming m...

Issues 1665 & 1666; Symbolic links & backups

TL;DR: I propose to make FreeCAD respect symlinks, allow FreeCAD to open its own backup files, add an option like "File>Rollback..." to do that from a menu somewhere, and add an option for a backup directory. I was snooping around #lowhangingfruit, and these got my attention. They encompa...

Re: Feature request: Active object name in title

I seriously tried to make the github page super easy to understand recently. I looked at that. I was, frankly, amazed at how much detail there was! You have done well. (Even if it's a maintenance nightmare ;) ) There is good stuff about git & GitHub there. I was very impressed! (I have some gre...

Re: [Feature Request] Rename macro

It's absolutely sufficient to announce a PR at one place and doing so at several places turned out to be annoying Understood @Sam The easiest for the devs is to make a branch on github Branch rename-macro When opening a feature request in the forum you should at least put it into the Pull Request s...

Re: [Feature Request] Rename macro

Fair enough. I got the impression from the sticky that a PR is kind of the last thing on the agenda.

I'll get my word sensored together eventually... :D

BTW, thanks for the stuff you do with kicad!

Re: Feature request: Active object name in title

Well, here's a patch for the status bar messages for comment. I only did some simple testing, but it looks OK to me.

I'll look at the dialog stuff later. Maybe.

Re: Knurling performance

Are you interested (for idea or other) to see my work :D Very interested! You appear to be pretty much where I thought of finishing. The main reason I thought to make a macro was to simplify and speed up the process. It was taking a silly amount of time to make 40 or 50 grooves with a helix and a P...
