Re: import sketch and make solid of it

In my case, my company used cadkey until we swwitched to 3-D (SW) There are decades worth of designs in 2-D format that get re-born. I use FreeCAD to make 3-D models for Electromagnetic FEM on commercial software at work. In the spirit of increased productivity I find myself working nights and weeke...

Re: import sketch and make solid of it

In my experience at least, unless the imported geometry was greated with a closed polyline in the original software, upgrading to wire is almost always required and almost always works. Unless the profile isn't closed, in which case it will always fail.

@ercmrj

Can you post your sample igs file. I don't have a program that exports igs on this computer. I want to dry run before I post so as not to confuse anyone

Re: import sketch and make solid of it

OK, I see tensor cad can export in IGES.

So export in IGES format from tensor cad then

File > Import
In the lower right hand corner of the Import File pop-up expand Supported formats choose IGES then type in your filename

DXF is possible but IGES is likely to give you less problems in FreeCAD

Re: import sketch and make solid of it

What other application? What file format are you saving in the "other" application. I don't know why your full About FreeCAD info isn't being copied to the clip board but I can see you installed the 32 bit version. Is you operating system 32 bit or 64 bit. If you can install the 64 bit ver...

If you can post a sample .dxf we can see if we can repeat the behavior.

Re: Making external geometry lines into sketch lines?

Ok I give up - I see an irregular face with some thickness, and an empty sketch - what are you trying to illustrate? This is true for most cases - however, if you want to move an entire face back or forward, you have to trace all the edges... I was trying to make that exact point. A poor attempt at...
