Which actually disables hardware rendering and switches to software one (MESA). There is a setting that should do just that: Edit/Preferences/Display/3D View/Rendering/Use software OpenGL.

First, use backup files.
When extracting the FCStd file you provided with 7-zip there are a lot of good BRP files that you can import (drag/drop) in FreeCAD and use. Not sute what the project was supposed to look like and of course there is no any history, just dumb shapes but it is a start.

Can you share an example file? Like parts of the front left bumper, where different surfaces connect to each other?
