Re: Basic usability issue - object cloning

As others have mentioned dit is difficult to understand what you exactly want, but I think you might need Part Workbenche's simple copy. It is an independent copy/clone without the internal guts of the original object.

Re: [bug/feature request] reasonable behavior for placement of Part Design clones

That's what cloning is mostly all about: Follow most attributes of the master but have an own Placement. You may try the new Link objects. I think I did not explain my problem properly. Let's compare the Part Design and Draft cloning tools. Both create a dependant clone (which is what I need). This...

Re: [bug/feature request] reasonable behavior for placement of Part Design clones

I just realized that the Draft workbench clone is actually showing the right/reasonable behavior. basically, in Part Design, the clone tool creates a new "clone" but sets the placement of the cloned part to all zero. As if the part was sketched on a different datum plane. But the Draft wor...

Re: [bug/feature request] reasonable behavior for placement of Part Design clones

another approach would be to use datum planes and sketches to place your object in the right place within the container, instead of initiating everything on the default Cartesian planes at the origin and then later adjust placement.

Re: [bug/feature request] reasonable behavior for placement of Part Design clones

One workaround, of course, could be to adjust the position of the mother body (cloned object) to the origin and then clone and then adjust the position back.

[bug/feature request] reasonable behavior for placement of Part Design clones

In the lack of stable and reliable assembly functionality in FreeCAD, I'm trying to use a combination of Spreadsheets (to define and calculate parameters), Part containers, and Part Design workBench cloning to do my designs (e.g., example ). However, the issue is that the placement of the clone is n...

Re: [idea] creating a block diagram XML editor for parametric design

Looks like an extended dependency graph. sorta. But there are some issues. Firstly the dependency graph with Graphviz fails quite often. Secondly, it only shows dependencies not values. And thirdly it is a still image. It is not an editable block-diagram. It certainly could be used as the starting ...

[idea] creating a block diagram XML editor for parametric design

I'm aware of PyFlow efforts and Blender's plugin Sverchok, which both are awesome and very capable. However, both like their predecessor, Rhino's Grasshopper, seem to be a one-way road. Basically, you can create CAD using a block diagram but you can't get a block diagram from an existing CAD file. F...

Re: [solved] Creating a new .FCStd from Document.xml

Ah you get the same error - look in the status bar. So, this error means success then  I tried this on my mac and I now notice the error message. It works after recomputing the subparts but not as smoothly as on Windows and stable version: OS: macOS Mojave (10.14) Word size of OS: 64-bit Word ...
