OBJ export to Blender

Hi All, I'm trying to export from Freecad to Blender; I seem to remember using OBJ in the past, but I can't seem to get it working - file is either empty (as in this case) or does have contents but doesn't shown anything in Blender. Please see attached files - any suggestions? Thanks! Brutha OS: Mac...

Re: Off topic - 3d printers

Thanks Hartmut - yes, have more or less come to a similar conclusion myself in the end! I can't actually think of that many things it would be useful for. I think I shall give it a few years: hopefully someone will create some sort of combined machine that could do metal and wood CNC type work and a...

Re: SpaceNavigator - unintended zoom while rotating - win 7x64

You may try different navigation styles. See http://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mouse_Model I think you still have to use the 3Dconnexion control panel if you want to remap individual movement axes on a SpaceNavigator though? Or are you suggesting trying the different navigation styles ...

Re: SpaceNavigator - unintended zoom while rotating - win 7x64

I haven't come across the issue you mention, but I'm on OSX, so I guess things are different. The 3Dconnexion control panel itself lets me map the axes, either generally, or for specific programs - not sure if this is similar in Windows. I'm using what I assume is the default mapping, which is a lit...

I also see the file types being greyed out in OSX, but if I drag 'n' drop from a finder window into the message text, that creates an attachment.....

Re: Hot to work with boolean result in a part design mode in 0.17 version?

just select the fusion and create a new body. And than rethink your modeling strategy as most likely there is a better way to do it 8-) I'm just curious here, as I don't actually have anything that needs booleans in PartDesign - but would like to understand the intended workflow anyway! Let's imagi...

Re: FreeCAD 0.17 Double plate sketch extrude problem

This is by design, and the fact that it worked in 0.16 is actually a bug. A body as created by PartDesign workbench is by definition a single solid. The sketch you have created would create two seperate solids inside a single body. That is not permitted. Hence one is omited. Out of interest, is the...

Re: Help with shelving model...

Actually, I'm quite impressed with that "part" object in 0.17, it makes it very easy to move groups of objects around. Here's the more or less finished set of racking in place, all parametic and controlled by spreadsheet!

Re: Help with shelving model...

Um, I may have confused myself (not unusual!), but I think they are different. In the first file, I have a old style group called racking; this doesn't have any placement property. In the second file, that is not a group; it is a part (part design next) - which has a placement property. Therefore an...

Re: Help with shelving model...

Actually, perhaps I can answer my own question - look like it is possible in 0.17, using draft clone. The thing I was missing was that I needed to create a "Part" - I can include both the body which is the original, then drag the clones into in the combo view once I've created them and off...
