Re: How to reference sketches in bodies

Attachment offset; Since all sketches originate at a plane (the attachment) , if that sketch is raised from the plane then it is offset.

Re: How to reference sketches in bodies

There is another thing that needs to be covered. In Sketcher Preferences look at "Visibility Automation" (the location is different in 0.18 vs 0.19). These settings can make a huge difference how you judge FreeCAD, (when in Sketcher) if set one way the program looks immature and your alway...

Re: How to reference sketches in bodies

There are always exceptions but this is a basic work flow. Try using these rules. It's all about what your sketch is attached to and how you attach it. When you create a sketch it has to be based on a datum plane or a standard origin XY,XZ,YZ. That's it! Want to create a sketch; expand the Origin in...

Re: How to remove a part of object

I moved the outer radius sketch (of the pipe) down a ways and created the fillet, then moved the sketch slowly back up and got within a micron of having the two top edges aligned. Not bad.

Re: Beginner learning freeCAD

In case you don't want to stay on that track. This is how I always export for 3D printing in PartDesign: 1) select/highlight one whole object with the mouse 2) go to properties and set deviation for that object to .02 (actually I use a macro). You should see the object edges get smooth if they can. ...

Re: Setting hole direction when making multiple holes

The holes are based on the sketch view normally. If you remove the mesh object could you post the file?

Re: Best input format from solidworks to recreate model

Thanks, I brought in a STEP file and I can get external geo off of holes. This is great!
I tried this before and it wouldn't work, I must have had a stack-up edge selection problem. We really need that pop-up edge selector in Sketcher.

Best input format from solidworks to recreate model

I don't have access to Solidworks anymore. Is there a best case format to ask for when exporting a 3D model, better than a STL? A file format that might let me find centers of radius/diameter, stuff like that. I have imported STLs but they are so-so, especially the mesh ones.
Thanks

Re: Beginner learning freeCAD

It seems there are two approaches here to export to STL for 3D printing: 1) Go to the Mesh editor and do something, not sure there, TheMarkster can probably clarify. 2) Change the resolution, what we call "Deviation" of the object, it's in the properties. Very high res. would be a deviatio...

Re: Beginner learning freeCAD

Would that print slightly differently
There will be no accumulative errors by the program, we model the desired object. If 3D printing you might need to do something, 3D printers tend to make internal diameters smaller than the model, some folks fix this in the slicer, sometimes in the model.
