Actually as a hobbyist I use a $1000 cnc machine. its not as good as $50K one, but it works great on wood and plastic, and it is quite common among hobbyists. (just search for cnc3040 on aliexpress)

Definitely. I used FreeCad quite a lot to design sheetmetal parts for production. As a fairly well acceptable workaround you can make all paths invisible immediately after creating the operation. Then you can do exactly as described above.
