You are talking about 3D DWGs right? FC cannot import these. As far as I know, you can only open rvt files with Revit or autodesk viewers...

Someone would have to reverse engineer the file format to be able to create an importer for Freecad or another CAD.

Would it be possible to convert External Edges to (or to import them as) Internal (construction mode) Edges? That would allow to switch them to "normal" geometry and use them directly, without having to redraw again (as sometimes or often happens) all the geometry just clicked and referen...
