Re: My take on the FreeCAD GUI
It also would be naive, that only counting would give valid results. You also have to interpret results. No one is going to add metrics until there's a general acceptance of it, it's a pity you feel that way despite the opt-in caveat, but that's your call. I was a UX designer for several years, and...

Re: My take on the FreeCAD GUI
Do we/can we collect metrics on things like this (opt-in of course)?
It would help remove the subjective aspect of many of these discussions, help us segment users into a few typical use cases and provide appropriate profiles or presets...

Re: My take on the FreeCAD GUI
Excellent points and i agree totally, Sketcher is better now but when i started in v0.16 it was a very... Frustrating experience. I wouldn't call it "hiding" functionality though. FreeCAD already organizes tools into workbenches to help focus on the task at hand - my previous suggestion wa...

Re: My take on the FreeCAD GUI
@Pauvres_honteux (j'adore ton pseudo!) I could imagine that being a dismiss option in the tooltip, but F360 does something smart there where the function names appear upon mouseover but the 'help' only appears after a delay of about 3 seconds, so expert users never see the help because they naturall...

Re: My take on the FreeCAD GUI
- what is the goal usage case? (proper CAD, tinkering) I think you and I agree that the goal is for FreeCAD to remain a fully fledged CAD solution. But the learning curve does exist, and compared to when I started in CAD, FreeCAD is now (with the increased accessibility of CAM solutions like 3D Pri...

Re: My take on the FreeCAD GUI
Maybe one would need to make a summary of the command at the top of the page, so the user does not have to read through the whole page. The "Description" section of most commands is quite concise generally, if there were a way of only showing that content with a link to the rest it could ...

Re: My take on the FreeCAD GUI
Yes, two children and a house later! Apologies for the absence. I think we have some good opportunities here - as long as we make sure to bite off small chunks of the problem iteratively we should be able to do something pretty cool here. I'll be setting up my workstation again to be able to build, ...

Re: My take on the FreeCAD GUI
I love the work you've put into this. If I may summarize my views after reading through the thread: Regardless of personal preferences, one must admit that solutions like F360, OnShape and others are much easier for a novice to get something done for the first time. The question becomes why? I don't...
