Re: Controlling meta objects, such as cameras & lights

No, I don't necessarily want Blender level rendering. It would be nice though, given that FreeCAD is fully capable of adding objects and transforming them, that those features extended to adding and manipulating cameras and lights in exactly the same way. From what I've read, the file format/protoco...

Controlling meta objects, such as cameras & lights

Just a usability suggestion from a UX designer: I guess it's already possible to position cameras and lights. Looking at this forum, there's talk of macros and Python but that seems massively difficult to reconcile with a product that already offers a solid UI. I realise that direct code manipulatio...

Re: Accurately aligning axes of centres or rotation for parts

Thanks papyblaise, I think I did that. Perhaps not perfectly but at least for the pan/tilt motors and gearboxes. For example (a subset of the bigger task), I created a pan part created two cubes (motor & gearbox). moved the pan stepper motor relative to the pan gearbox dragged the two cubes into...

Re: Accurately aligning axes of centres or rotation for parts

Thanks Thomas, I'm not quite sure what you're showing me there but the grids look useful. Do they represent the local coordinate system of the item selected in the tree? I was slightly confused by this feature only appearing in the Architecture workbench, because if it's the answer I think it might ...

Re: Accurately aligning axes of centres or rotation for parts

Thanks for your prompt feedback. Sorry, I used composite in its vernacular form (plain English) as it is a word that describes the assembly of subordinate things, so it would be unambiguous and reduce the chance of me accidentally calling it something less clear but also not part of the FreeCAD lexi...

Accurately aligning axes of centres or rotation for parts

FreeCAD v20.1 on MacOS10.16 Please will someone point me at a tutorial or help me understand how to set up composite objects? I am modelling a pan an tilt head on a dolly that runs on a track, so I need: 1 a composite object for everything (part)  1.1 a composite object for the dolly assembly (part)...

Re: How to use sketcher B-spline tool

Here's an example file (a smaller version of what I showed in the video) Note that I created two splines (one either end). It would have been great to be able to copy and paste the first to create the second (with rotate/mirror) but I couldn't see a way to do that. When I did them I made them roughl...

Re: How to use sketcher B-spline tool

Sorry about the missing image and difficult video link. Should be fixed now By way of an explanation. I created the parallelogram within it I placed a rectangle and deleted its ends I drew a bezier of about 12 points that approximated to the candle flame shape I wanted and constrained the open end p...

Re: How to use sketcher B-spline tool

I have been using the sketcher b-spline tool to create some 1930's stair rods (see photo 1) 1930s stair rod IMG_20220131_115133.jpg I can sketch the parallelogram with all the necessary constraints and I can sketch the slot (with width constraint) and even the candle-flame end elements (using the be...
