Will that work or am I missing some other issue?
Sounds reasonable if you can live with the whole bunch of sketches.
Well I think I have to ;)

topological naming and master sketches for assemblies

Hey all, I am assembling and optical setup with assembly4 by having one master sketch where each edge represents a light path and vertices correspond to positions of optical elements. The light path splits and recombines occasionally; ergo does the master sketch. From what I read and experienced tha...

It states very clearly in the wiki that sketcher point is not available outside of the sketch, it is a construction geometry only.
Use a Datum point or part point.

See Limitations:- Sketcher_CreatePoint
Ah, thank you for clearing that up!

Re: New Vertices not accesible in 'edit datum' dialogue

Why ? The user has a problem involving sketches and datum objects, nothing assembly related. I don't mind where this is discussed, but it seemed well assembly related, because the file contains LCSs which arent created that way by the core application. You may help finding the issue by reproducing ...

New Vertices not accesible in 'edit datum' dialogue

Hi, while using the Assembly 4 workbench on FreeCAD 0.19 I encountered the following problem regarding a (master) sketch: Whenever I leave the first editing session of a sketch the sketch seems to lock the objects accessible to the "create new coordinate system in part"/"edit datum" selection dialog...

Any idea?
There is a forum for general Help on FreeCAD, your question is not assembly related.
Alright, thanks!

Re: Assembly 4 workbench

I attached a file to demonstrate the issue: master:Vertex7 and master:Vertex8 do exist (verified via Selection View) but I cannot chose them while attaching an LCS. the sketch "master" has only 4 vertices, Vertex7 doesn't exist, not anymore than Vertex8. The reason that LCS_7 doesn't report an erro...

Re: Assembly 4 workbench

Hi all! Is there a way to update the master sketch with, e.g., additional points? Whenever I leave the first editing session of a sketch the sketch seems to lock the objects accessible to the "create new coordinate system in part"/"edit datum" selection dialogue: If I edit the sketch again and add a...
