Re: BIM/Arch development news articles from Yorik's blog

Whenever in doubt, think of Windows 1.0. Realistically that is how pros do it. But we will get there! We in this case are the pro users and pro environments. Hence best to start directly addressing them from the ground up. And to get to there, working together with them. Using the "stay away for now...

Re: Qt offering changes - 2020

We likely don't have to worry about it in the near future, but for sure this is something we need to keep an eye on. On how things will evolve in the future. In general hopefully Qt will support Qt Widgets in foreseeable future and if we move to QML, to not be limited by FOSS offering.

Re: Hitting some limitations with Cloud workbench / App::Link

Hi @vejmarie FreeCAD does need cloud workbench and thanks for implementing one. As for the concepts, best to follow what you have done here. Ask, discuss, share ... And i am sure that the outcome will be good. P.S. In general you get more freedom, when not changing the core, only a dedicated module....

Re: Discussion: FreeCAD is not ready for 1.0

Ah, from your little finger I likely wouldn't involve fingers, to not get the wrong idea, basically an educated guess. This is a common sense approach in real life, no special reason it wouldn't work here to. @All As for the rest, to be honest it reads more like a brainstorming. Nothing wrong with ...

I am of your opinion
The good thing about BIM is it more or less a "pro feature", hence we shouldn't get the usual "hobby feature" dilemma type of comments. ;)

There is a problem when using FreeCAD with big IFC files
There will always be some problems. That is the nature of software.

Re: Confirmation of capabilities of FreeCAD

FreeCAD is good at mechanical engineering, hence you should be able to create desired geometry and export it to DXF.

Re: BIM/Arch development news articles from Yorik's blog

Nice progress. P.S. As BIM has been or will be made mandatory in some countries for some sectors and projects, maybe it's time to start thinking on how to get FreeCAD more involved in such industry. This are usually large projects involving millions of dollars/euros ... Offering training, support an...

Re: A user's perspective on the state of assembly

Hi @xevious In general your idea sounds good but in practice there will likely be competing assembly modules for years to come. I guess we can call that fragmentation, having its pros and cons. What might happen is to decide at some point and to upstream some functionality, as seen in different asse...

Re: Discussion: FreeCAD is not ready for 1.0

where did you get that information from ? Based on what other key people said in such discussions and based on the past experience with a release cycle. As a hobby user, I think the only difference between 1.0 and 0.19 other than a perceived "stable" state ... As for "perceived state", yes, that al...
