Re: OpenFlexure - Open Hardware microscope - Lets FCStd it!

The point of this effort could be all the above (certainly not the agenda to migrate away from OpenSCAD). But the strongest intentions here are to: Discover pain points between both projects and seeing if we can bridge them. As was mentioned, interoperability: Follow up thought is that the most pow...

Re: OpenFlexure - Open Hardware microscope - Lets FCStd it!

Ideally, the OpenSCAD models would load in as a FreeCAD tree of operations rather than a mesh They do load as a tree of operations rather than mesh apart from when the user has coded hull or Minkowski actions. i.e. functions that do not map to the Brep world. Sorry, I stand corrected! I think we re...

Re: OpenFlexure - Open Hardware microscope - Lets FCStd it!

One thing I find very hard is that to properly recreate in FreeCAD one must actually read and understand the OpenSCAD source with all its internal connections, dependencies, parameters, ... So a simple example - condenser.scad. It actually does not contain the Condenser code. It just uses the funct...

Re: OpenFlexure - Open Hardware microscope - Lets FCStd it!

Follow up thought is that the most powerful think for us and the wider open source CAD world would be better interplay between OpenSCAD and FreeCAD. If OpenSCAD workbench could load in not just the model but also the parameters (maybe it can?) then this gives some power for say, assembly. Ideally, t...

Re: OpenFlexure - Open Hardware microscope - Lets FCStd it!

I totally take the point that keeping the two in sync is very hard if not impossible, but this is partly why I brought it up. A forking the project into a new CAD package fractures a project rather than enhancing it. I suppose to decide what should be done it is best to consider what is the motivati...

Re: OpenFlexure - Open Hardware microscope - Lets FCStd it!

Hi everyone, Sorry I missed this thread, I turned off my brain for Christmas :D Great to see the enthusiasm. I was in touch with Julian a while back before he was off to Malaysia(?) or some where like that for months. The microscope was to be used in a project for Malaria(?) or something similar. Of...

Re: pylint as part of build ?

The problem often with autoformatters like black is not that they screw with git blame (which is sad). But that they are a robot version of pretty. Which often produce less readable code in the name of readability. Black is particularly awful due to the "uncompromising" nature of the ideology, which...

Re: Hole dialog discussion

My intention was to make it easy to supply definitions, so qualified people can do this (I’m a software engineer, not a metalworker). There are CPP changes and I don't have a nice dev environment set up to test this. Once this is merged and ends up in the the freecad-daily PPA, I am happy to go thr...

Re: About funding and all that

Many would pay to have some phone/desktop support to get started or prevent getting stuck with no idea what to do. Sometimes it even helps to know that there is not quick solution. I think phone is hard as there needs to be someone available to man the phones. I think email/chat probably with a sim...
