Re: Importance of algebra in engineering.

Would you mind telling me what engineering do you do? Thanks a lot again Mechanical engineering. Regarding simulations, we use that in the mechanical world, say for stress analysis or aerodynamics etc In other words “is the material strong enough”, “is the design sleek enough” that kind of thing. H...

Re: Importance of algebra in engineering.

1) 95 out of 100: an engineer must be very proficient at algebra. I don’t understand the question about simulators. 2) when I’m doing a calculation I usually start with a well known equation, rearrange so that my one unknown value is on one side of the equation, then substitute numbers in for my kno...

Re: I'm (trying to) make my own CAD!

good luck! Do not foget to give a good name. Changing later might be impossible. Thanks! I did put a bit of thought into the name, "MyCAD " seems mostly appropriate as it is "my" CAD (lol), but also I hope to design it in such a way that anybody (dvelopper and user alike) can tailor and tune it to ...

I'm (trying to) make my own CAD!

You can see my work here on gitlab . There's not much too it right now, but it's definitely something! Mods: you can feel free to delete this if it goes against the spirit of the forum. I'm hoping that by posting in the "Open Discussion" sub-forum that it should be ok. Edit: Here's a quick demo of t...

Re: Discussion: FreeCAD is not ready for 1.0

there are people around who do not want to jump to 1.0 they would like to jump to 0.91 as inkscape did! Never forget about them because all this would be possible from 0.91 too. My opinion on 0.91 is that it doesn't really accomplish anything. v0.91 conveys just about the same information as 0.20. ...

Re: Discussion: FreeCAD is not ready for 1.0

I'll be honest, I've only skimmed this thread, but I do really think vocx has the right idea. Thank you! Why did you hide for some many months only to reappear so suddenly? I started messing around trying to write my own CAD kernel in Haskell, then stopped doing that and got sidetracked on some oth...

Re: Discussion: FreeCAD is not ready for 1.0

I'll be honest, I've only skimmed this thread, but I do really think vocx has the right idea. To draw a comparison to other software (which I'm sure someone has already done in this thread), they tend to follow some version of this semantic versioning system where a major version bump after 1.0 is c...

Re: Discussion: FreeCAD is not ready for 1.0

I agree that FreeCAD is not 1.0. I think the OP did an excellent job listing the reasons why not - in particular, I don't think it can be considered as such until the Topological Naming thing is dealt with.

There's no agreement.
I...er...concur that this seems to be a good path to explore. :D
