You might want to look if there are local linux groups in your area, it's a good way to make connections. Usually they meet at restaurants or host meetings at universities or hacker spaces. You'll have good web connection where those things happen and you can get help with install/compile issues too.

You go to the first post of the thread and change the summary

Appimage is like a binary. You just run it, no need to install anything. You can also have different versions of FC running on the same machine. So there's no need to remove your preexisting FreeCAD install.
