Re: Flatten face made out of 3d points

Could it be that you are trying to represent a surface that cannot be developed? This is the sort of situation that obliges metalworkers to use wheeling and stretching machines to form compound curved surfaces from outlines cut from flat sheet.Which may make the exercise of flattening a surface of ac...

Re: Is this new? I love it.

Great job!I keep recommending Freecad to all sorts of people and including useful new features will make it easier for all of us.I'm excited about where the project will be when we compare this time last year with now and project forward a month or two.

Re: Help with creating correct paths

I thought it would help to make the various entities one solid body as that would establish the relationship between them and give the program enough information about their size and location. The pad I created at the base doesn't have to exist on the component but it seemed necessary to tie all the ...

Re: Help with creating correct paths

I thought I was good at creating untidy entities.... Now I know that there is still room for advancement.I had a play around and go nowhere,so I found a way to extrude the bottom plane and used the Part workbench to do a Boolean join and created a fusion which helped a bit. Then I tried making it a c...

Re: Help with creating correct paths

I had a brief play with the file but it seems to contain all manner of entities that don't cleanly fall within a body.Maybe a bit of upgrading in draft and possibly some boolean adjustments in Part would be helpful, but its after midnight now and a bit too late to wrestle with the problem.

Re: Help with creating correct paths

I haven't yet taken a look at the file, but there might be a fundamental problem with using a 3018 machine on a 400mm diameter disc.

Re: Creating inlays

For a proof of concept, thats nicely done.I am watching this thread to see what is being accomplished and may feel tempted to venture into my chilly workshop if I can generate some code.Still very much a novice with Freecad but it seems to get better every week.

Re: part design file to linux cnc router?

I took a look at the file and used the circular hole to generate a toolpath successfully.I expect that if you treat each of the holes/pockets as separate entities for machining and the outside shape as an additional operation, you have every chance of success. One really useful aspect of Freecad is th...

Re: Adding G64 tolerance to linuxcnc_post

I am aware that the great and good of the Path workbench are involved in this topic. My simple system is to use the preamble to insert a G64 and if I had to,it wouldn't be too hard to manually change the value in the post processed program.

Re: is there 5 axis

Can you spot where the toolpath goes wrong in this model? To overcome the "stripieness" I would try to break down the model into its surfaces and process them individually. E.g. an inner radius will look good if you mill it paralell to its centerline. Perhaps this will even be possible to run in pa...
