Re: Rename a file containing external links

That is just the current state of development, it is a limitation of Expressions, if you move or rename the "library" file then the Expression will fail.

Re: PartDesign Next - additive box to center

many might want a cube that is centred on origin of zy plane but not z. Where do you stop with making the same primitive with different origins? It would save time but all you have to do to work around this is go to the offset and enter an expression in the XYZ offset of x "Length/2" y "Width/2" z "...

Re: I just want to cut a body with an outline of a sketch

(from Fusion360) don't waste too much energy wondering why FreeCAD works differently that X Y or Z CAD application. Just learn how FreeCAD works. Start on simple things first. How to progress? Read the FreeCAD wiki. Version 18.4 update to the latest snap shot of FreeCAD 0.19, it has over 6 thousand...

Re: How to get wiki editing permissions

Hi, I am new to FreeCAD and just got started with tutorials. I would like to help translate the wiki into Russian. Also, perhaps I will try to create subtitles (when accessing the video) or record some lessons in Russian. I apologize for the quality of the language - this is Google's auto-translati...

Re: external geometry links break on changes

Another tip, always use dress ups as close to the end as possible in all CAD applications. The Thickness tool is a dress up like chamfer etc. they are always going to be susceptible to topological naming issues by their very nature.

Re: Topological naming problem...will force me to stop using FreeCAD?!

That's a fact, but for the last few weeks during testing I have been attaching all sketches direct to face and I like it, it really makes FreeCAD fun to use. Yeah, I know what you mean but you soon get used to the alternative, or at least I have, I enjoy the challenge. :) Actually I just had an ide...

Re: connect objects fails

here is another version of my file, this one is the same as the last except that all the values are held in a spreadsheet and are read via expressions in the various sketch constraints and properties. Constraints defined by an Expression are orange in colour. So if you wan to change the dimensions, ...

Re: connect objects fails

i would tend to want thinner to save on 3D printing Materials. As it is now with the model i uploaded the print time is about 60hours and perhaps $30+ It is good as a modeling challenge but really why 3D print the whole thing? A proper Y junction 75mm x 75mm x 45deg is $3-4 here. You could take tha...

Perhaps that is why, his is 55 degrees, 38.75 mm ID etc. ! :D

I just had a thought, if that is a pipe fitting then the ends should have a counter bore.

Re: external geometry links break on changes

Welcome to FreeCAD. :-) without even looking at your file I can tell you what is happening, it's a classic case of topological naming limitation, which has been talked about here a million times over many years. It's just that the components, e.g. edges, of a solid or sketch etc. are given a number ...
