Re: [general] about the future of the FEM workbench
Right, when it comes to non-mechanical analysis types (acoustic, electromagnetic, fluid flow). But it's the other way around when it comes to capabilities in mechanical analyses. As it was already stated in this thread, Elmer doesn't even support standard contact and plasticity which makes it usele...

Re: [general] about the future of the FEM workbench
As I wrote, a loop between designing and analyzing would be FreeCAD's strength because Comsol and Co. only support to lead in a STEP file. I think you forgot that companies as comsol, as ansys as .... Have plugins that work with the CAD software like Creo, SW, NX, .... So the iteration is there too...

Re: [general] about the future of the FEM workbench
An aside, I've x-posted this thread to the the CalculiX discourse forum . Thanks ... I think that you have the most experience with programming (For FEM) from the current responders. If you start totaly from ground up a new FEM WB... What would you do as current more solvers == more choice == more ...

Re: [general] about the future of the FEM workbench
I start thinking about what is a good workflow (without creating complexity). I think the workflow is most important from that it is possible to create a roadmap. Part of the workflow can be / should be sequental calculations (what we don't have now (at least not in Calculix)) for example: static an...

Re: New Sketch icons "make pocket sketch, make pad sketch"
chrisb I assume that you response is Haavard . And i want to try to clarify things. What haavard say is not something unique to SW (A lot of SW users think it is, but it is not). All Major CAD software have this similar workflow. Also All Major CAD software have the still have the sketch as the bas...

Re: releasing FreeCAD 0.20.1
Maybe a stupid question...
Why don't we call the release the moment we able to create the different packages. Now we create a release and then the work for creating the packages is done.
What we call now release can be something like fix source(code) or whatever.

Re: Part Thickness Study - Observation about Calculability (using Part Loft)
As I'm using almost exclusively scripting to model with FC, probably I'm biased as many problems are "naturally" solved with some maths when creating models, GUI approach is different, and I haven't been able to learn properly the GUI part, or maybe I've not spent my energies on learning ...

Re: Part Thickness Study - Observation about Calculability (using Part Loft)
But I could not imagine a CAD without mathematical formulas behind, how do you define a circle if not using: x = r cos(t) y = r sin(t) Not speaking of BSPlines and Bezier curves, or other more complex things. There is a difference between being a mathematician and being an engineer. that the circle...

Re: Inserting operation in the middle of the tree?
If you have Initiate dragging on than you can hold and move the objects around(a pity is that it is sometimes unclear where the moving object is placed - a simple line can help a lot). I noticed that at least in some cases objects can be moved out another object. But i didn't test the exact reason f...
